Lifetime friends and owners, Kari Burdick and Rebecca Clemmer, first dreamed of owning their own retail store while studying retail merchandising at UT in Austin. They both worked at the well-known By George during college where their love and knowledge for fashion grew. After college, Rebecca worked as a visual merchandiser, a marketing director, and most recently as the director of operations for the high-end, online children's clothing website, Milkshop. Kari went on to teach at West University Elementary and Travis Elementary, as well as owning her own jewelry design business for a few years.
In 2008, Kari had twin boys, Miles + Oliver. Rebecca had Lucas in 2010 and Liam in 2012. Soon, they saw just how quickly children GROW! Both women quickly found themselves surround by piles of barely worn clothes, gently used books, hardly played with toys and realized that something was missing in the Houston area. And so Thread was born.
