Go Texan Day: February 24th

Are your kids ready for Go Texan Day?
If not, come see us for some Rodeo Wear!

We were curious how Go Texan Day started, Googled it and thought we would share.

Hope your little Cowboys + Cowgirls enjoy one (of many)
reasons we love being from Texas!

It's been called a spirit. It's even been referred to as a fever. Very few individuals - if any - can explain it. People in Houston just know that there's something in the air, and they know that it arrives early in February and lasts about a month.

They smell pit-smoked barbecue for miles. They see their friends wearing jeans and boots. And while driving to work, they pass hundreds of men and women on horseback, some even in wagons.
Most Houstonians know exactly what's going on - they've been around it for many years. But "foreigners" might not realize they're being soaked in the Go Texan Spirit.

"Grow beards, wear big hats, boots and spurs. Let's put a little touch of the Wild West into this thing." Those were perhaps the first words spoken that informally established the unique Western flavor of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™.

It was in 1938 when the general manager of the Houston Chamber of Commerce initiated a motion to immerse the city in excitement for the Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exposition. It wasn't, however, until the mid 1950s that the Go Texan movement was officially launched, as a result of an advertising agency promotion.

In 1954, Archer Romero chaired the first Go Texan Committee, and members of the newly-established group encouraged everyone to wear Western clothes. The Friday before the parade, Houstonians young and old, short and tall, and chubby and, well, chubby, are encouraged to dress in their finest western wear to help usher in the year’s rodeo. An auspicious start to the near-month long event.

WNW: What's New Wednesday

We are excited to announce changes at Thread!
Kari + I welcome
Brooke Schwab to 321-B W. 19th St.!

Many of you may know Brooke's work!  She is a local photographer
that believes her job as a photographer
"is to show people their beauty in who they really are,
to capture the truth of ones life and the
uniqueness in each person that deserves to be captured".

Brooke is going to turn the upstairs of Thread into her studio.
We think the space's natural light and feel is a perfect space for Brooke
and we are delighted she agrees! Brooke specializes in wedding, family
and newborn photograph!  We think she is a perfect fit in our little store.

Brooke will be moving in March 1st.

I am so horrified that I haven't posted a blog since December.
Needless to say I have been a little busy.
My husband and I welcomed our second son
to the world right after the New Year.
We can't believe he is already a month old.

Kari is doing an incredible job - as we knew she would -
running the store all by herself.  Please go by and see her.
I hate for my friend to be lonely!
Plus we have so many great items in the store right now!
